About the Founder

The CEO and founder, Chanene van As, has a passion for children, Jamestown and Education. She and her family have been proud residence of Jamestown for almost 19 years.

Chanene is a qualified teacher with a Diploma in Senior Primary and Remedial Teaching and has more than 20 years’ experience in working with learners with special education needs.

She started this journey with her family in 2014 to establish the first and only Learning Support Centre for girls (grade 1 – 10) from Weber Gedenk Primary school and Stellenzight High school in Jamestown.

About the Centre

The Centre is an educational safe haven where the learners feel welcome, loved, receive lunch, individual help with their specific educational needs and have some fun play time.

They focus on Literacy in Afrikaans and English, Numeracy, Creativity and Go Green. The Centre is open Mondays to Thursdays from 1pm to 5pm.

In the program they are able to identify learners with learning disabilities and severe emotional trauma, and they can contact professional help suited to each learner’s needs.

The Educators have seen a transformation throughout the past 8 years in the lives of these learners since their enrolment at the Centre because their aim is the wholeness of each girl’s wellbeing, rather than a classroom style education.

Furthermore, the 2 educators, cleaner and gardener are from the Jamestown community and understand the household needs and challenges these girls encounter in their daily lives.
